Troubleshooting

This guide helps you resolve common issues with Asset Optics. If you can't find a solution here, contact support at assetoptics@brahmaforge.com.

Installation Issues

Plugin Not Appearing in Toolbar

Symptoms:

  • No Asset Optics button in the Unreal Engine toolbar
  • Can't find Asset Optics in the Window menu

Solutions:

  1. Check if the plugin is enabled:
  2. Go to Edit → Plugins
  3. Search for "Asset Optics"
  4. Ensure the checkbox is checked
  5. Restart Unreal Engine if prompted

  6. Verify plugin installation:

  7. Check that the AssetOpticsPlugin folder exists in:

    • Your project's Plugins folder, OR
    • The engine's Plugins folder
  8. Check engine version:

  9. Asset Optics requires Unreal Engine 5.5, 5.6, or 5.7
  10. Verify your engine version in Help → About Unreal Editor

  11. Check the Output Log:

  12. Open Window → Developer Tools → Output Log
  13. Look for errors related to "AssetOptics"

Plugin Fails to Load

Symptoms:

  • Error message when opening project
  • "Plugin could not be loaded" notification

Solutions:

  1. Re-download and reinstall:
  2. Remove the existing plugin folder
  3. Download a fresh copy from Fab Marketplace
  4. Install again following the installation guide

  5. Check file permissions:

  6. Ensure you have read/write access to the plugin folder
  7. On macOS, check if the files are quarantined

  8. Verify all files are present:

  9. The plugin folder should contain Binaries, Source, and other folders
  10. Missing files indicate an incomplete download

Authentication Issues

Device Code Not Working

Symptoms:

  • Code expires before you can enter it
  • "Invalid code" error on the web page

Solutions:

  1. Request a new code:
  2. Click "Get Started" again to generate a fresh code
  3. Codes expire after a few minutes

  4. Check the URL:

  5. Make sure you're using the exact URL shown
  6. Don't modify or add anything to the URL

  7. Try a different browser:

  8. Clear browser cache and cookies
  9. Try Chrome, Firefox, or Safari

Can't Sign In with Google

Symptoms:

  • Google sign-in popup doesn't appear
  • Sign-in fails with an error

Solutions:

  1. Check popup blockers:
  2. Allow popups from asset-optics.brahmaforge.com
  3. Temporarily disable popup blockers

  4. Clear browser data:

  5. Clear cookies for Google and Asset Optics domains
  6. Try an incognito/private window

  7. Check Google account:

  8. Verify you can sign into other Google services
  9. Try a different Google account

Session Expired

Symptoms:

  • "Session expired" message
  • Asked to log in again frequently

Solutions:

  1. Normal behavior:
  2. Sessions expire for security
  3. Simply log in again

  4. Persistent expiration:

  5. Clear plugin cache by logging out and back in
  6. Check your system clock is accurate
  7. Verify your internet connection is stable

Sync Issues

Changes Not Appearing

Symptoms:

  • Created a task but it's not showing
  • Changes in web dashboard not appearing in plugin

Solutions:

  1. Manual refresh:
  2. Click the refresh button in the Asset Optics header
  3. Wait a few seconds for sync to complete

  4. Check the selected project:

  5. Verify you're viewing the correct project
  6. The project selector is at the top of the panel

  7. Check the selected milestone:

  8. In the Planning tab, check the milestone filter
  9. Select "All Milestones" to see everything

Project Not Found

Symptoms:

  • "Project not found" error
  • Project disappeared from the list

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the project list:
  2. Go back to the project selector
  3. Click refresh to reload projects

  4. Check the web dashboard:

  5. Visit asset-optics.brahmaforge.com
  6. Verify the project exists there

  7. Check your account:

  8. Ensure you're logged into the correct account

Slow Sync or Timeouts

Symptoms:

  • Loading takes a long time
  • "Request timed out" errors

Solutions:

  1. Check your internet connection:
  2. Test other websites
  3. Try a different network

  4. Reduce data size:

  5. If you have many tasks, try filtering by milestone
  6. Archive completed tasks

  7. Try the web dashboard:

  8. If the plugin is slow, use the web dashboard
  9. This helps isolate network vs. plugin issues

MCP Integration Issues

MCP Not Connecting

Symptoms:

  • AI assistant can't see projects
  • "Connection failed" or similar errors

Solutions:

  1. Verify the configuration:
  2. Check that the MCP config JSON is correct
  3. Ensure there are no typos in the token

  4. Check token validity:

  5. Generate a new token from Account Settings
  6. Replace the old token in your config

  7. Restart the AI tool:

  8. Close and reopen Claude Desktop, Cursor, or VS Code
  9. MCP servers load on startup

  10. Check network access:

  11. The MCP server needs internet access
  12. Verify firewall settings

Plans Not Appearing

Symptoms:

  • AI says it created a plan but no notification appears
  • "Plan" badge not showing in header

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the panel:
  2. Click the refresh button in Asset Optics
  3. Plans appear as notifications

  4. Check the web dashboard:

  5. Visit the web dashboard
  6. Check for pending plans there

  7. Plan may have expired:

  8. Plans expire after 30 minutes
  9. Ask the AI to recreate the plan

Focus Mode Issues

Focus Not Showing Tasks

Symptoms:

  • Focus tab is empty
  • "No tasks" message even though tasks exist

Solutions:

  1. Check task status:
  2. Focus shows Todo and In Progress tasks
  3. Done tasks don't appear in Focus

  4. Check milestone filter:

  5. Focus respects the milestone selection
  6. Try selecting "All Milestones"

  7. Create some tasks:

  8. Focus is empty if you have no incomplete tasks

Wrong Task Priorities

Symptoms:

  • Tasks seem out of order
  • Urgent tasks not at the top

Solutions:

  1. Understand the algorithm:
  2. Focus considers: Priority, Due Date, Dependencies, Age
  3. All factors contribute to the ranking

  4. Set due dates:

  5. Tasks without due dates rank lower
  6. Add due dates to important tasks

  7. Check blocked status:

  8. Blocked tasks rank lower
  9. Unblock tasks when dependencies are resolved

Error Messages

"Failed to fetch" Errors

Cause: Network request failed

Solutions:

  • Check internet connection
  • Verify asset-optics.brahmaforge.com is accessible
  • Wait and retry (may be temporary server issue)

"Unauthorized" Errors

Cause: Authentication issue

Solutions:

  • Log out and log back in
  • Check if your session expired
  • Verify you have access to the resource

"Not Found" Errors

Cause: Requested resource doesn't exist

Solutions:

  • Refresh the current view
  • Check if the item was deleted
  • Verify you're in the correct project

"Server Error" Errors

Cause: Backend issue

Solutions:

  • Wait a few minutes and retry
  • Contact support if it persists

  • Unreal Engine version
  • Operating system and version
  • Steps to reproduce the issue
  • Any error messages (screenshot if possible)
  • Whether the issue occurs in web dashboard too
